Following the acquisition of Arval by BNP Paribas, Arval had a requirement to provide information into the BNP Paribas group data warehouse (Monaco). In order to provide the information accurately and in a timely manner Arval were required to use DataStage PX (the group’s preferred ETL tool). Arval hadn’t worked with DataStage previously and therefore needed external DataStage resources. They also wanted a partner with expertise in delivering DataStage projects but also a partner that could provide skills transfer to in-house staff they wished to train in DataStage and who would eventually take on support of the DataStage processed.
Spargonet have worked on numerous ETL and data warehouse projects such as this. Our primary objectives were to, assist getting this project up and running and provide the transfer of knowledge to Arval personnel. We provided a team of experienced ETL Consultants to lead the project and help Arval understand the complexities of a project of this type. The project faced a number of challenges including poor quality data, tight timescales and a lack of available Arval resources. The technology is DataStage PX, UNIX, Sybase, SQL.
Spargonet worked closely with the Arval Programme Manager to re-shape the project to enable the high priority requirements to be met within the required timescales. The ETL development was undertaken by Spargonet and where resources and timescales allowed, knowledge was transferred. Phase 1 of the project was implemented successfully with a Spargonet Consultant overseeing the implementation and initial post go-live support. Following the successful implementation of Phase 1 Spargonet were asked back to Arval to undertake Phase 2 of the Monaco project. Again this project faced many similar challenges to Phase 1 but the development stage completed on time and the project was implemented in early 2009.
